What Are Quilters Blogging About Today?

I added more rows and now fractured squares is sewn together. I made it smaller than the free pattern. I like it, and, it was a good stash buster. I don't think I want to finish it right now. I have several higher priority quilts I am working to finish. I have more blocks that would easily make a cute baby quilt. But, that is for another day.

 Fractured squares is a free pattern from quilted twins. I have had the pieces cut for awhile, now. I discovered it buried in a pile of UFOS. I decided to make sure it was all there, before, I put it away where it goes. All the pieces were not there. I cut a few more from scraps on the table, but, I was curious to see what it was like to make a block. um.... they were fun and quick. checkered past is finished. It is made using recycled shirt fabric from thrift store shirts.  checkered past is a free pattern from quilted twins. There are only 16 blocks which doesn't sound like very many, but there 48 squares around each center. that's 960 squares. The block is 16 1/2.

 I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet. I did some fabric shopping on line for black friday. But, I sure don't like the shopping in stores on black Friday.

The border is underwhelming, but, it is a finished top. I used all the leftover strips that I had from the 2 1/2 inch checkerboard. This quilt used almost a whole bag of 2 1/2 inch recycled shirt strips. .checkered past  is a free pattern at quilted twins.

Last week I sewed 3 out of 4 rows together for checkered past. I was at the guild's open sew and had time to concentrate on joining the rows with sashings.

At Friday quilt group, I sewed all 4 rows together for a finish of the top. I have decided to add borders. The pattern calls for another set of blocks around the quilt, but, I don't think I want it that large.

 checkered past is a free pattern from quilted twins. I really like her blog and her free patterns. The patterns look intricate but are really quick and easy compared to others. I have many recycled shirt parts in my stash and I like to have at least one in progress. I started putting 4 patches together at an open sew. I used 2 1/2 inch strips from the yokes.

I have found a large piece of red gingham in my stash that I like for the sashings for Aunt Eliza'a star. I think I want to do a nine patch in the center of the sashing. This is my may one monthly goal., and I need to get going on it if I want to get it done.

 I have been collecting pink and green scraps for a quilted twins free pattern called swingin checkerboard. This is one of those patterns that you collect, sew forever in between other projects, sew sew sew, and love the whole process until it is finally a quilt. I am in no hurry. One thing I have noticed with Becky's patterns, is that they are relatively easy to have a successful result, and, look much more complicated than they were to make.

I have a top for the old world mystery quilt from Quilted Twins. I really like it. It's big, so, I will need to find a back to continue with it. I have really enjoyed this mystery.

As I was sorting scraps, I pulled any blues for a new quilt that uses 2 inch strips. It is a quilted twins free pattern, called norwegian snowflakes, I found here. I had finished my evening treadle project and was ready to just sew strips together. It seemed to take forever. I decided to do strips of 4, since the pattern has sections of 4. I am making progress on the old world mystery quilt from Quilted Twins. I haven't sewn as much, since, I injured my finger. I really like putting this quilt together. It looks complicated, but, it doesn't have matching seams.

 I am now on the injured list with a finger. I was slicing onions, and added a piece of my left ring finger. It will be awhile before it heals. Meanwhile, I learn just how much I use my finger. haha
